Okay, so the title of this post is a bit of a joke... but not for me. This was the first and last time I go up a lighthouse. Why? Because apparently I have an acute fear of heights. I believe this has gotten worse with age, just as my fear of flying. The two fears do seem slightly related after-all.
(And I apologize that I am lacking in posts, but I have been busy with the photography gig, which is good, but means less time to blog... oh, and I am tired of photo editing, so these shots are straight out of the camera.)

It all started quite harmless. Smiles abound. A pretty, picturesque lighthouse. Historic stuff. Yada yada yada.

A quick look up at what we are about to take on. Um, wow?

The first flight of stairs, or maybe the second? Check out how thick the walls are. And notice my son. This is as far as he got, and decided he wanted no part of the insanity. Apparently, he is wiser than I. Isaac stayed with Aunt Niecey and Sadie while we climbed on.

David held Lauralyn's hand while Aiden the Brave was on his own. Did I mention you could see through the stairs? And the rails had gaps that would make any mom of little ones a bit nervous.

About halfway up, I am covered in cold sweat. From nerves, not from the climbing mind you.

An then finally, we make it to the top. There is a piddly iron railing that is barely keeping me from plunging to my death. I seriously am nauseous. I am scared. I am clinging to the wall of the lighthouse trying my best to not look like a complete fool. All with the Little Man attached to my back! (He's thinkin', "Mom you are such a wimp.") In the background is Uncle David, looking over the rail (he is crazy, obviously).

And Aiden is obviously thinkin' I am a nut.

And my daughter is the one making me lose it... she is dancing, running laps, jumping up and down. Making me want to vomit.

Ugh.

Daddy and Kristin had no fear either. But there was no running, jumping, or dancing on their part. Thank goodness. A mother can only handle so much.

The way down proved to be a bit more complicated, as Noah took the girls in shifts. I would wait on the landing with Kristin as he would run back up for Lauralyn. So, Noah got a bit of an extra workout.

And then Granny and Pop Pop just had to go and make my stomach turn by leaning over the edge of that flimsy iron rail to wave at us. Insane people.

Safely on the ground, there were more photos taken.

I chatted with some smart people who did not climb the tower of doom.

The kids played with a stuffed bear and a real goat (not pictured).

And proceeded to make me nervous while running on the edge of a rail-less walkway.

I fell in love with this (safe) bridge, that had great structural elements. Pretty, huh?

Thus concluding our only excursion away from the comfort of our beach house. I have one cute post left from our vacation... it'll be good get back to bloggin about our wonderful boring daily life once again (of course life with 4 kids is never boring :-).
