One would assume from the title, and the pictures, that this post is about our wonderful summer at the pool (which it certainly has been).
But, no. This is the post that I tell my 3 blog readers our lives are going to change in about a month. Unless something drastically changes, this will be the year we enroll our first born in... wait for it... PUBLIC SCHOOL.
Honestly, I never envisioned public school a viable option for our children. It was plain scary, and still is to some degree. Isaac has needs I just don't feel able to meet... and if I put all my time and energy into meeting his educational needs, there will be nothing left for the rest of my family or the house.
God has given me great peace. I am so sad to think of ending this chapter to start a new one... but in a year or two, who knows, he may be hitting the books once again at the kitchen table.
And while he was struck with great fear upon learning of his pending enrollment, Isaac is getting excited. I am dumbfounded. He will ride the bus with his little neighbor friend, Jay. He may get into a class with some swim team buddies. Tonight (even though school for him is a month away) he was PACKING HIS BACKPACK. His new uniforms are being washed.
Monday, Noah will meet with the principal, and tour the school. I met with her and looked at the school a week ago with the kids in tow and was caught off guard with how helpful and kind she was towards me. Wednesday, Isaac will start his testing that is the first step towards getting him the special help he needs with his reading troubles.
Of course, we planned a first ever 2 week beach trip the first weeks of school. Isaac will be enrolled late to avoid excess absences. And there is a small question mark with Lauralyn. I had decided to keep her at home (after all she is so very easy to teach). But she has been begging to go to school and I know it will pain her to see her brother go off on this "grand adventure". There is one first grade teacher who I know is a Christian and who I think Lauralyn would love. She and her husband own a local coffee shop, and they are very pro-missions and adoption... she has a heart for children.
We'll see what happens.
Our kids are growing up. God is using them to grow me up in some painful ways. Realizing these sweet children are going to be adults in a short amount of time. Knowing the decisions we make for them will impact them for life.
I am optimistic about this year of change. May God bless us as were seek His will.
