THREE!

The baby is 3! Our wild and precious Joshua.

DSC01394

His vocabulary has really taken off since turning three. He is speaking more every day, in 2 and 3 word sentences... "Look, a police car!" or "Look, a tractor trailer!" or "Look, a motorcycle!" His articulation is mostly spot on, so that is exciting. And yes, the child has a love of anything with wheels.

He is big for his age, weighing in at 39 lbs. and measuring 40 inches tall. He is in the 95 percentile on the growth chart. He is built like a football player, and is surprisingly very fast on his feet... I know this from chasing him.

We keep a child proof cover on the doorknob, as Joshua still wants to escape, and as Noah learned, walk into neighbors' houses. He also manages to disappear when playing outside, as I have lost him a few too many times in the matter of seconds. Thankfully, he is always found, but not without a little panic. One time he had walked three houses away and was in their fenced backyard. All it takes is a few seconds of a turned back, and he vanishes. He hides behind bushes, or simply walks away, and is silent when called. Stinker. He is a bit too brave, adventurous, and bold for his mama.

Joshua still relishes being the baby. He is possessive of me and I can't work the toddler nursery with him in there because he won't let me hold any other kids. He knows he is the crowned prince of the house... not just parents catering to his whims, but also 4 older siblings. We often call him a pint sized dictator... our friends call their toddler the Tiny Tyrant (she is also a toddler in a family with older kids). It's all out of love, of course. And because they are truly the babies of their families, we too often give in to their demands. You want to eat lunch while sitting at the computer to watch monster trucks, all while drinking your "bucky" and holding your "leelee?" Sure! Whatever makes you happy, buddy.

Potty training is not on the radar, and that is mostly my fault. It's really me not wanting to deal with constant potty reminders and/or accidents. Also, we have a big road trip in a month, and I really don't want to have to worry about it while traveling. So, the plan is to have a week of being naked when we return, and hopefully, things will click. Besides, he is growing out of the size 6 diapers and that is as big as they make them, ha.

This is going to be a big year of growing up for our boy. We are ready to hear what he has to say and watch him grow and mature. What a bundle of blessing and joy he adds to our home!

As Our World Turns

DSC00177

I remind myself to take a picture. Too often I just have my phone and think a quick, grainy snapshot will do... but I am trying to be better about using my camera when the moment is too sweet for a cell phone picture that will get lost in the masses.

Like when Grandad shares a moment reading a book to Joshua. Or when Kristin reads him the same book a few days later.

When Miss Debbie is teach Kristin to crochet on a warm winter day outside.

Or School Spirt week?? Generation vs. Generation Day. How funny!

DSC05308

Kristin is always creative. Even with Joshua's toys.

DSC00185

And the funny squirrel who entertained us with his ability to just hang out and eat.

So, slowly I update this little blog of mine. The years of neglect reflects the busyness of life. Soon, we will start a new chapter: The Teen Years. Yet, I can't look at these pictures and just be so very grateful for all God has done for us. Five amazing gifts. And two tired parents, lol!

The Best Kind of Winter

DSC05231

Winter, is not my favorite time of year. Thankfully, in NC, we don't have an endless winter. Usually the cold with occasionally be broken up with temperate days.

DSC05260

It's the hardest when we can't go outside to play for days on end. This winter was reasonable, though.

DSC05278

No major ice storms, and an early spring was the cherry on top. We had one good snow, which is all I need.

DSC05275

The years we get no snow at all (or wimpy snow) is a let-down for all the kids. So, I was happy they had a few days to play in the white fluff.

Plus, we had an extra cute 2 year old who loved his adventures in the Carolina Arctic.
